Indian football legends Sunil Chhetri has announced to retire from international football after the match against Kuwait.

This FIFA World Cup qualifier match is scheduled on 6th June'24 at salt lake stadium.

He made his International football debut in 2005.

In his 19 years long career, he played 150 international matches for India.

He will retire as India's all-time top scorer with 94 goals and most-capped player.

He also played for India's big clubs like Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Dempo, Bangaluru FC etc.

He ranks third among active players in the list of international goal scorers, trailing behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

In 2010, he became just the third Indian to play outside of South Asia and the first Indian to play in MLS for Kansas City.

Chhetri helped India win the 2007, 2009, and 2012 Nehru Cup, as well as the 2011, 2015, 2021 and 2023 SAFF Championship.

Chhetri received the Arjuna Award in 2011, the Padma Shri award in 2019. In 2021, he received the Khel Ratna Award.
